Dear all,
England 1 had there New Years Day ride out today. Myself, Steve, James and Gareth(England 5) met up at the layby on A556. It was very cold. We left at a little after 1030, having decided that we would keep to main routes.
So onto the M56, which was fairly quiet and headed towards Chester intending to go to Betws-y-coed. As we entered the new road, A550, at the end of the M56 there was a notable drop in the tempreture. I decided that we would stop at the first services as we passed Queensferry and went into McDonalds for a warm drink. Whilst there we, except for the youngster who wanted to carry on, that it was actually too cold to do, what would be another 60 miles to Betws-y-Coed and 100 miles return.
So after a stop of about an hour we headed back through Chester and A556 onto the Northwich by-pass. Each leaving at the point to return home.
It did get a little warmer, but not much. The road surface was damp but not slippery, even the small road from the A55 to Connahs' Quay was okay.
It was a good ride out, even if it did not last long, still completed about 90 miles.
I like to thank Steve, James and Gareth for braving the weather, this was the coldest New Year Day ride to date. At least it was dry.
Alan Kinsey.
